Westrafo breaks ground on transformer facility in Ohio
On August 5th, Westrafo broke ground on its first manufacturing plant in Trotwood, Ohio, for the manufacture of medium voltage transformers and energy solutions.
The groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of a significant development project and was attended by key local government figures and community members.
Notable attendees included Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted, State Representative Phil Plummer, Mayor Yvette F. Page, JobsOhio J.P. Nauseef, Dayton Development Coalition Julie Sullivan, Montgomery County Commissioners Debbie Lieberman, Trotwood Madison School District Aaron Lumpkin, Gated Properties Global Dan & Adin Penn, Trotwood Community Improvement Corporation Chad Downing.
Their presence emphasized the community’s strong support for the project. Attendees also highlighted the expected positive impact of the new facility on the city’s economy, particularly regarding job creation and overall economic growth.
With the new production facility, Westrafo expects to create 230 full-time jobs, generating more than $12 million in new annual payroll. Production will begin in July 2025 and it is expected to reach a production output of 12 GW per year starting from 2027. This production capacity will contribute significantly to meeting the growing demand for power distribution in the United States.
“We selected Ohio, and Dayton in particular, as the best area for us based on the type of skilled workers, and a type of location that is similar to our origin” said Alberto Cracco CEO of Westrafo during the groundbreaking ceremony “We are here today because we want to grow more in the United States. The United States is suffering a lot because of a shortage of transformers.”
This project is part of Westrafo’s expansion strategy in the North American market. Last July, it established its North American subsidiary, Westrafo America, and launched a customer care branch to enhance local support during sales and after-sales services.
The new Ohio plant highlights Westrafo’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the United States and supporting the country’s energy infrastructure needs. As production begins, the plant is expected to play a critical role in filling the transformer shortage and driving forward the nation’s energy goals.
