A smart energy system is a cost-efficient, sustainable and secure system in which the production, infrastructure and consumption of renewable energy are integrated and coordinated through energy services, active users and enabling technologies. In fact, it is a question of moving from a concept that has so far been mostly mono sector to a holistic one, which has its strength in integration and coordination. For this reason it is reductive to identify the concept only in smart grids, which are also important infrastructures in this new paradigm.
